President Hassan Rouhani was elected in June and held the gathering at the One UN Hotel in Manhattan Sept. 24, 2013 across the street from the UN headquarters.

The meeting came after Iran’s president spoke at the General Assembly and impressed analysts with words that reflected a desire to thaw U.S.-Iran relations.

May this letter find you, staff and family in good health and spirit in spite of prevailing circumstances.

I am writing this letter out of a deep concern for the direction that the President and our Congress may take our Nation. There exists deep divisions within the Congress over whether this action should be taken, and if so, how far should America go in punishing the Assad Regime.

The President has said that he wishes to degrade the military and its ability to defend the regime, while at the same time he is giving greater weapons and intelligence support to the rebels to use for whatever time the Congress will give to the President for such action to setup their activity to actualize the overthrow of the Assad regime.

Although President Obama says that this will be a limited surgical strike, I am deeply concerned that a larger war will materialize and America will be forced to put American soldiers in harm’s way to accomplish their desired results.  What is the real purpose of this intervention? What do we plan to do in the event the regime falls and the leadership in Syria falls into the hands of those who are not necessarily friends of America and another civil war takes place over who will be the political power in Syria. If Russia and others intervene a possible wider conflict could engulf the entire Middle East.  Events and circumstances will manifest that our brightest minds had not considered making a messy situation even messier.

I am pleading with you on behalf of a war weary American people and the suffering peoples of the World; and the needs of the American people that will be further delayed in being satisfied, which will produce negative results on the inside of America creating the same kind of backlash and vitriol as we saw when the American people revolted against the war in Vietnam.

Please understand that there is another view from the other side that should be heard before such an important decision is made.

May Allah, The God of Peace and Justice that is rooted in truth, guide your heart and mind in a diligent search for the truth that you may make the best decision on behalf of those whom you represent.

Every life is precious with Allah, the life of the policeman that was killed and the life of Troy Davis.

The worst part of this is that an innocent man may die for a crime that most believe he didn’t do. The arrogance of authority to not fiercely fight for the truth that may exonerate him is dangerous for the state of Georgia.

When Cain slew his brother Abel, God told him that the blood of your brother cries out from the ground for justice. If our brother is killed, and he is innocent, I feel sad for the state of Georgia for the God of Justice will retaliate.

May God’s Peace be with him, be with his family, and those of us who would mourn his loss.

I am general counsel for the Nation of Islam and legal counsel to the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. This communication is being written to formally notify you of our objection to and opposition of the request from Congressional Representatives Frank R. Wolf and Peter King in their letter dated July 5, 2011.

The letter requests that you immediately remove all written, audio and video materials produced by the “Nation of Islam” and Louis Farrakhan from all BOP facilities.

The United States Constitution, First Amendment, is clear that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech … . The request from these two congressional representatives violates the prohibition stated in the First Amendment. We are committed to ensuring and protecting our rights through all areas of redress that the law permits. In fact we have already litigated this matter in federal court and our first amendment rights were upheld.

During the June 15, 2011 hearings referenced in the congressmen’s letter there were no facts or evidence presented that Islam as taught by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad under the guidance of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan leads to radicalization, terrorism or extremist ideologies. The truth is the Nation of Islam has been recognized for over 70 years for reforming inmates and former inmates spiritually, morally, intellectually, and economically, and producing law abiding citizens who are positive contributors to their community. These individuals have a very low rate of recidivism. Moreover, there has not been one member of the Nation of Islam during our eighty year history in America that has been charged with an act of terrorism against the United States. We are taught by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan to respect the laws that govern our Nation.

Contrary to the congressmen’s assertion that prisons in the US have been a fertile breeding ground for violent ideology leading to radicalization, the testimony and evidence presented at the hearing proved exactly the opposite. For your convenience I have attached the Testimony of Professor Bert Useem, of Purdue University, one of the presenters at the hearing.

The conclusion reached by this expert clearly contradicts the assertions in the July 5th letter. It states in pertinent part;

My core argument, then, is that U.S. prisons are not systematically generating a terrorist threat to the U.S. homeland. … . The claim that U.S. prisons will generate scores of terrorists spilling out onto the streets of our cities appears to be false or, at least, much overstated.

More specifi cally and most importantly, Professor Useem was pointedly asked by Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee (D) Texas, a member of the Homeland Security Committee whether he viewed the Nation of Islam as promoting, in the current 21st century, the undermining of this nation? Professor Useem stated; No, I don’t. For your convenience I have attached an excerpt of the transcript of this specificline of questioning.

We further categorically reject the perverse interpretation given by the congressmen regarding the alleged quote attributed to Minister Farrakhan as anti-American and anti-Semitic propaganda, or that the video titles cited purportedly belong to the Nation of Islam.

We continue to provide spiritual and reformatory services to inmates, male and female, in many federal correctional facilities throughout the United States. Thus, we request to meet with you to engage in a dialogue regarding policies and procedures that will allow us to work together in a cooperative manner to achieve the rehabilitation of the inmate population we serve.

We believe these discussions will be beneficial especially in regards to your regulations concerning Incoming Publications, Religious Beliefs and Practices, and your Chaplains services.

CHICAGO—Excitement is building across the country as thousands prepare for the Nation of Islam’s Saviours’ Day 2011 Convention, which will be held in Rosemont, Ill., and culminate in a major address by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan at the Allstate Arena in late February.

This year’s convention marks the 81st year of the Nation of Islam’s existence in North America. Each year, to commemorate the birth of its founder Master W. Fard Muhammad, members from around the world make the journey to Chicagoland during the last week of February for a time of fellowship, networking, information dissemination and spiritual renewal.

On Sunday, February 27, the highly anticipated keynote address by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan will be delivered at the 18,500 seat Allstate Arena located at 6920 N. Mannheim Road in Rosemont at 2 p.m. His subject is “God Will Send Saviours.” Doors open for the public at 12 noon.

The convention, which will run Feb. 24-Feb. 27 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, 5555 N. River Road, will include workshops, discussions, social events and displays and culminate with Min. Farrakhan’s annual address.

“We are in anticipation of one of the greatest Saviours’ Days in our history,” said Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad, son of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, and Minister Farrakhan’s assistant at the Nation of Islam’s international headquarters Mosque Maryam in Chicago.

This year, the workshops and plenary sessions are being held under a common theme: “A Scientific Analysis of the Teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.” Some of the best academic minds in their fields have come together for what is sure to be a Saviours’ Day like no other.

Perhaps the most intriguing plenary session is scheduled for the afternoon on Feb. 26 titled “The Truth About the Existence of Unidentified Flying Objects.” International experts will discuss this phenomenon and its relationship to the teaching of Elijah Muhammad and the divine judgment of America. Last spring, I engaged in an e-mail exchange with former New York Mayor Ed Koch, the man who originally labeled Louis Farrakhan a “Black Hitler,” back in 1984. Koch wrote a series of columns in the New York Post earlier this year criticizing me and journalist Robert Novak for inviting Min. Farrakhan to our annual supply-side conference in Florida. I invited Koch to exchange views, which we did, and in response to one offer, he challenged me to explain why Farrakhan had called the Pope an “anti-Christ” and called Judaism a “gutter religion.” I passed the request on to Min. Farrakhan and he answered in this letter. Christmas week is a good time to publish it.

Dear Jude… May this letter find you and your family in the best of health and spirit.

I am happy to respond to Mayor Koch’s assertions that I have made derogatory remarks about Judaism and Christianity. There is no possibility that I would say what he and others have accused me of saying about these religions, which after all, the Revealed World of Allah (God) found in the Torah and the Gospel provides the foundation for my own Islamic Faith, the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, and the Nation of Islam.

Regarding Mayor Koch’s assertion that I made reference to the Pope as being “the anti-Christ” on the Phil Donahue Show, my secretary searched each of the four Donahue shows on which I appeared over the past dozen years. She could find no reference to my charging the Pope as being the “Anti-Christ”. I am sending a copy of all the tapes for your own review.

Indeed, when I was young, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad instructed me, that as a Minister in the nation of Islam, I was certainly not on the level of the Pope and that I should be very careful how I directed any criticism at the Pope. I have instructed all of my Ministers in the same manner. This is why I was most disturbed at the words concerning the Pope made by Khalid Muhammad, when he was under my leadership.

In my mind, I believe you agree in your mind as well, those who teach and inspire others to act against Christ’s Teaching must be considered anti-Christ. In the past, there have been Popes, other high officials of the Church, priests, lay persons, Muslims and non-Muslims who have accommodated themselves to views and actions which most of us would now consider antithetical to His Teaching. I believe, to be of a mind and spirit to oppose Christ as a conscious act is an act of Satan himself.

Most Christians who violate Christ’s Teaching do so out of weakness or temptation, not out of a conscious desire to uproot and/or destroy the Message of Jesus Christ.

Regarding Mayor Koch’s challenge of my statement of March 11, 1984, about Judaism being a “dirty” religion or “gutter” religion. I have since then, at least a hundred times, explained that I made the “dirty religion” comment in a political context, after I was charged by some Jewish political and religious leaders with being the new “Black Hitler,” in anger, I responded: “Here come the Jews calling me Hitler. The only way you can compare me to Hitler is that Hitler rose his people up from the ashes of defeat in World War I and I am trying to raise my people up from the ashes of slavery.”

Then I said, “Do not compare me with your wicked killers”, by which I meant murderers in the white race. I have never murdered anyone, advocated murder, or urged any form of physical violence. All human life is sacred to me. I believe all human beings can be redeemed except those who have violated the law of Allah (God) in such a way that it demands the forfeiture of their lives.

Regarding the state of Israel, I said in 1984, “Israel has not had any peace in 40 years and she will never have any peace for there can be no peace structured on lying, murder, and injustice, using the name of Allah (God) as a shield for your dirty religion.”

Countless times over the years I have explained that I never referred to Judaism as a dirty religion, but, clearly referred to the machinations of those who hide behind the shield of Judaism while using unjust political means to achieve their objectives. This was distilled in the New York tabloids and other media saying, “Farrakhan calls Judaism a gutter religion.”

As a Muslim, I revere Abraham, Moses, and all the Prophets who Allah (God) sent to the children of Israel. I believe in the scriptures brought by these Prophets and the Laws of Allah (God) as expressed in the Torah. I would never refer to the Revealed Word of Allah (God) — the basis of Jewish Faith — as “dirty” or “gutter.” You know, Jude, as well as I, that the Revealed Word of Allah (God) comes as a Message from Allah (God) to purify us from our evil that has divided us and caused us to fall into the gutter.

Over the centuries, the evils of Christians, Jews and Muslims have dirtied their respective religions. True Faith in the laws and Teaching of Abraham, Jesus and Muhammad is not dirty, but, practices in the name of these religions can be unclean and can cause people to look upon the misrepresented religion as being unclean.

In the same way, I have throughout my life referred to Hitler as a wicked man, yet, the national news media insists that I called him a “great man,” with the implied inference that “great” means “good.” However, I did refer to him as “wickedly great.” in the same sense that Ghengis Khan stands out in history. For political purposes in 1984, as Jesse Jackson sought the Democratic presidential nomination, his opponents chose to characterize my words in the headlines, “Jackson’s pal hails Hitler.”

No matter what I have said to explain my meaning in the last 13 years, whenever my name is mentioned or I am written of, the words are repeated, “Louis Farrakhan — the man who called Hitler great and Judaism a gutter religion.”

I have given the above explanations over and over again and do so here again in hopes that your dialog with Mayor Koch can at last bring this issue to a close, at least among those willing and able to be objective. I believe in the commandment of Allah (God) revealed by Moses, “Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbor.”

May Allah (God) bless you with the great strength and courage needed to pursue the path of Truth. I am confident that all who stand on the basis of Truth and act with Justice in the end will be vindicated from false charges.
