For immediate release Contact:James Muhammad Aug. 26, 1996 (312)602-1230 Farrakhan to receive humanitarian awardCHICAGO--The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan will announce during a 2 p.m. press conference Aug. 27 his plans to travel to Tripoli, Libya, to receive an internationally recognized humanitarian award. The press conference will be held at Salaam Restaurant, 700 W. 79th St. The award, named after Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi, includes a $250,000 cash prize. It is being given in recognition of Minister Farrakhan’s role as being a fighter for justice and in calling the Million Man March in Washington, D.C. Min. Farrakhan also will address concerns in a recent Wall Street Journal news report about his planned trip to Libya. Nation of Islam attorneys will answer questions about the charitable gift application to the Treasury Department. A Geneva, Switzerland-based committee of nine people each year nominates an award recipient.
