MEMPHIS, TN - Culminating a weekend of events,
The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan will keynote
address the Holy Day of Atonement 2009 on Sunday,
October 18th at 2pm at the Memphis Cook Convention
Center.
Min. Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam will host the
Holy Day of Atonement October 16-18 in Memphis, TN, in
commemoration of the 14th Anniversary of the Million Man
March. The event’s theme is “Accepting
Responsibility to Build Our Community.”
“Minister Farrakhan’s visit to Memphis and his message
of responsibility comes at a critical time in our
history and in view of world events his message of
atonement, reconciliation and responsibility comes at a
time when we see in the city of Memphis and in cities
all across this country an increase of violence and
killings among black youth,” said National Assistant
Minister Ishmael Muhammad. “We want to pull our
community together and gather the best and the brightest
to develop a comprehensive plan to solve the many
problems we are faced with.”
Why should there be a commemoration of the historic
Million Man March? This historic event brought nearly
two million men to the Nation’s Capital. It demonstrated
the willingness of Black men to atone to God for our
shortcomings as men, husbands and fathers; it
demonstrated our willingness to reconcile differences at
home, school, church, organizations and in the society
in general; it demonstrated our willingness to accept
responsibility to change our behavior and to strive to
make our communities a more decent place to live.
